November 2022 Honoree
Natro Dove, RN
Natro Dove’s role includes calling patients before their survivorship appointments to educate them about their visits. One patient was in significant pain and distress due to cancer treatment-related side effects. Natro not only had a long conversation with this patient over the phone, but she also spent three hours with her on the day of her appointment. She listened to the patient as she described her pain, looked at pictures that detailed her skin burns from radiation, and learned about her other medical issues, which made her side effects more difficult to endure.
This patient was very frustrated about her treatment side effects and came into the appointment feeling that her care team wasn't listening. This patient said that Natro was the first person who took the time to "hear" her and that after her survivorship visit, she felt comfortable with the plan to help her heal from her treatment side effects. Natro was patient and kind, showing this patient empathy and compassion. Most of all, she took the time to listen to understand. She is an exceptional nurse with a caring heart. She took whatever time was needed to ensure that the patient had what they needed to move forward and heal, facing life after cancer.
