I am a healthy 52-year-old, I have never been sick or hospitalized. I had a very serious spine infection that came on very quickly. When I woke up, I was in so much pain. Neal was there and took such good care of me. He always had a smile on his face and was so kind and pleasant. He made me feel safe and let me know that this was going to be ok. This was the first time that I have felt this vulnerable and he was there to help me with whatever I needed. When it was time to leave the ICU, I was constipated. They were supposed to take care of this when I got to my new room but Neal knew they might be busy and it might take a while. He also knew I was very uncomfortable. He said, "You are still my patient, we are going to take care of this now." I know this is not his job and not a fun job. He knew I trusted him and would be more comfortable with him. When we left, the other nurses laughed that it took so long to go to my new room. I so appreciate his care and kindness. This job is truly a calling. I had great care in my 12 days at Memorial and had so many great and kind nurses and doctors, but Neal really is a standout.
