I wanted to recognize Neil Robert, as he nearly brought me to tears in the ER a few weeks ago. A trauma code was called near shift change for a toddler coming from an outside hospital for [rule out non-accidental trauma]. Neil stayed over about an hour after the end of his shift simply to spoil this kiddo and bring a smile to his face. It turned out the patient was severely abused and had also lost his brother; he came in all alone, surrounded by medical staff and no one he knew. Neil hopped right in and started blowing up balloons, making swords, dogs, shapes, etc., out of them for the patient to hold, and decorated the patient’s entire bed in different balloons. After all that this child had been through, Neil managed to put a huge smile on his face. Neil consistently goes beyond medical care for the patients in the ED. It does not matter how busy the ED is, you can find Neil making jokes, blowing up balloons, blowing bubbles, you name it- if it makes a kid happy, he is going to do it. I hope he can be recognized, as every day he brings joy to so many kids during difficult times.
