Nellie Diez, MSN, RN, NEA-BC

Our DAISY Nurse Leader Award recipient received multiple nominations. Her nominations highlighted the impact that she has on her staff, her patients, and the entire Upstate community. Common themes were found in her nominations, including her sincerity, her open-door policy, and her dedication to her staff and her patients. Whether it be with a holiday party, patient satisfaction, or quality care, Nellie is always going above and beyond. Nellie has also made meaningful contributions to the organization’s Cancer Committee, Transfusion Committee, and BMT Quality Committee. Over the last several years as a nurse manager, Nellie has built meaningful and trusting relationships with staff at all levels. Her efforts to create a work environment where employees feel seen and valued do not go unnoticed. She regularly seeks out opportunities to connect with staff one-on-one and supports them on their individual professional journeys. Her nominators have expressed that they are fortunate and grateful to work alongside Nellie, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we are fortunate and grateful to have her here at Upstate.
