During my hospital stay here at Bethesda North, I had the pleasure of meeting a team of awesome staff from the charge nurse to housekeeping however there was this one nurse in particular who stood out from the rest and his name was Nelson Livingston...he was not your ordinary Nurse, he was a very unique individual in an AWESOME way.
When you think of a nurse you automatically think of a little older woman who comes around to take care of sick people (basically doing their job)been on her feet all day, tired and ready to go home....well nope, not this time around...in fact I got the total opposite...a male nurse who was first off very kind, thoughtful, patient, open, strong, and compassionate. He understood that healing is not just about the medication or procedures/surgeries that we have to go through....healing is also in a person's attitude which starts with the Nurse-patient interaction.
Nelson was always consistent with his attitude and routine. He checked on me often to make sure I was comfortable and/or if I needed anything I never had to wait very long. He made sure I was educated on my meds and the procedures I would go through by recommending the generic videos for me to watch. If I couldn't find the answer there and he didn't know it, he assisted me in locating an answer. Being the outgoing and talkative person that I am, I almost ALWAYS tried to strike up a conversation with my Nurse and he managed to find the time in his busy schedule to converse with me.
Though I may be rambling on and on and may not make complete sense of everything that I am saying, I felt that it was important for me to share "this" experience with Bethesda and the impact that this Nurse has made on me. It is the holiday season, I'm physically ill and I have also been dealing with some mental illnesses as well and people like Nurse Nelson are rare these days and when you do find these good people I feel that they should be recognized. I hope and pray that many more lives are touched in the same manner as mine...God Bless
