Nen doesn't need prompting; she practices within her scope and isn't afraid to ask for help or orders to get what's best for the patient.
I call Nen, "Nen Nen"... I tend to make nicknames for my nurses whom I hold dear and Nen Nen... well she is one of a kind. On a consistent basis, I can count on her to "own her practice/role" (in the words of Dr. Maria O'Rouke). When she pages me, her pages have all the info, need to triage her call back appropriately. She tries to catch me before I enter a room to give me a rundown of concerns, ways she has intervened, and her plan for the day. When I leave the room, she is ready to hear the plan and put it into action. She also gives great recommendations. She doesn't need prompting; she practices within her scope and isn't afraid to ask for help or orders to get what's best for the patient. We shared a patient who had been in the hospital since her transplant, at the time over 100 days, and Nen Nen just gave the best personal care to this patient and her son during his first-time visit to discuss mom's plan of care. Nen Nen was very creative in her care, along with giving tough love. The patient developed a bedsore that Nen helped to heal, she spent extra time and gave special attention to her son by being present and offering all she could to comfort him. She advocated for the patient and treated her as if it were her own family. The son had driven from Fontana and the family didn't have much, Nen Nen bought him lunch. She is the model of nursing without borders. She goes above and beyond for all her patients.
