Nick is such a hard-working nurse. I love picking up patients from him. All of his patients love him. Family members go on and on about how kind he is, efficient and caring. Patient assignments are always "put together" at change of shift. He goes above and beyond obtaining daily weights on CHF patients, restocking the simplest things like tissues, identifying a potential sepsis patient and communicating that to the provider. He anticipates what the patient and unit will need. He is a strong patient advocate. There are so many patient examples to pick from. His gentle and calming voice is appreciated by so many patients. One particular example is a patient who was so scared to go to x-ray, having been cancer free for ten years. She presented with a cough that was lingering. The patient described Nicholas's calming voice and holding her hand at the bedside just prior to her chest x-ray. The patient ended up having pneumonia. I overheard her telling her two daughters how nice the night nurse, Nick, had been to her. "He got my IV very easily and got the blood work and I didn't feel a thing. I was so scared to go to x-ray, but he held my hand and explained that being scared is okay. He was so sweet." Nick gives amazing care and support to his patients and to his peers. I would want Nick to take care of one of my family members, should they ever have to come in to the ED.
Thank you, Nick, for all you do. You are an amazing nurse.
