Nicholas Taylor, BSN, RN
Nick is being nominated because of his extraordinary compassion and empathy for others along with his excellent nurse intuition. We had a patient who received news that there were no further treatment options available for him. The patient was well known to us as well as his brother, who usually accompanied him on his visits. Nick spent a long time consoling and attentively listening to the patient's brother who was very distraught at the news. Nick recognized that his brother was verbalizing suicidal ideation along with a plan. He quickly facilitated a Social Work intervention and provided compassionate support to the patient and his brother. It was because of Nick's sensitivity and concern that the patient's brother was safe and provided the resources he needed. We should all hope to have a nurse as kind, compassionate, and thoughtful as Nick to help us during our time of deep. He is amazing!
