When our mother passed, Nick gave us the time we needed and showed such respect for our mother. Again, Nick answered the many questions that we had.
This past February, we had the pleasure of having Nicholas Vecchio as our nurse for the two days my mother was in your ICU. It was a very difficult time for our family, as our mother passed away on the second day. We were grateful that all five of our mother’s children were able to be at her bedside during those two difficult days, but this also came with a lot of questions regarding what and when things were occurring. Nick took the time to explain what was happening and more importantly why it was happening. As he explained things to us, he used simple terms so we all could understand. Anything we asked for, he took care of. He made sure that when the doctor was doing rounds that we were included and as soon as test results were back, he shared them with the family. Nick was constantly checking on our mom as well as the family, and he did so with compassion and respect. You could tell he truly cared and that meant the world to us. Nick never rushed us with anything.

We got to know Nick in the short time we were on the unit, and we understand that he has also helped mentor/train other nurses.

We truly appreciate all the support from GBMC ICU during this difficult time, but Nick really stood out, we want to thank Nick for treating us like family and our mom with the best care and compassion.

GBMC...you have a rock star in Nick, please make sure that he is acknowledged for his hard work.
