Nichole Fletcher, RN, a staff nurse in our Surgical Intensive Care received a DAISY Award for her compassionate care of a patient who was nearing death. Nichole knew that her patient’s significant other was an inpatient on another floor and arranged for her to come to the SICU and say goodbye. Nichole told the other nurse, who brought the patient in a wheelchair, that she could return to her unit and she would bring the patient back, so the goodbye wouldn’t feel rushed. “I was deeply touched by her thoughtfulness in making this meeting possible,” the nomination reads. “The patient was so thankful that she got the chance to say goodbye." “Nichole is a great role model for all of her peers because of her quick action, compassionate heart, and going above and beyond for her patients and their families.” Thank you, Nichole, for your compassionate patient care!
