On May 20th, a 34-year-old patient presented to our unit with chest/sternal pain for the past several months. She was seen by a couple of different providers prior. Our staff/provider ordered a CT scan to find out some scary and horrible news --- that she potentially has cancer. Our provider reached out to specialists who were unable to get her in for a mammogram for weeks.

Nichole, who was in charge at the time, heard the news. She took the initiative to reach out to our mammogram department herself to try to get the patient in for a mammogram, so she didn't have to go home fearful, worried, and scared to be told one of the worst things you can be told.

She advocated for the patient. She spoke directly to the staff, showing her compassion and concern for this young patient. After speaking with the staff and getting the provider to order it, the patient was able to get her mammogram done and resulted right away, putting the patient more at ease. Her dedication and compassion showed even during times we are busy. Kudos to Niki, you are truly a rock star!
