I was a patient at Henry Ford WB. When I was 31 weeks pregnant, I was admitted due to preterm labor, and Nichole was my first nurse. My husband was working at the time, and Nichole provided support and comfort. I appreciated how supportive Nichole was, but also admired her passion for her career. I learned about how long she was an OB nurse for, that she was going to school, and was passionate about pregnant moms with addiction. Fast forward to 38 weeks, and I was admitted due to stroke-like symptoms and was induced. Nichole was not only my nurse when I arrived in triage, but was also my nurse for my delivery. My delivery was incredibly difficult, and Nichole stood by my side the entire time, offering me encouragement, pushing me when I wanted to give up and rest. Nichole also stayed past her shift to be there during my delivery and see everything through. During a traumatic birth, I continued to just focus on Nichole instead of the 20 people in the delivery room and listen to her instructions and support. I seriously don’t know how I would have gotten through everything without her. The next day, Nichole stopped by, even though she wasn’t actively working, to check in, inquire how I was recovering, and meet our baby again. I honestly hope that every laboring woman is lucky enough to have a nurse like Nichole.
