We had a patient who was from out of town and was suffering from complete paralysis from his shoulders down. His wife had to stay in a hotel during his two-week stay. The patient's wife mentioned to Nick she had no clean clothes left and was a bit scared to use a laundromat at night after she returned from the hospital. Nick kindly offered to take her laundry home and bring it back later that day.
Nick had worked night shift and waited for the patient's wife to come in the next day. The patient's wife also expressed that Nick gave her husband a sense of security at night after she left. The patient used a blow-call bell and was concerned about having breathing issues as his condition continued to weaken and not be able to call for help. Nick provided him with a sense of security and comfort by checking on him and giving reassurance throughout the night. Nick went above and beyond in his scope of practice for not only the patient but his wife as well. He cared for them as he would a family member.
