Nick is an example of an RN who goes above and beyond in every way to care for his patients. Yesterday I became very upset when a volunteer inadvertently told me I was to be discharged. I knew I was not ready to go home but felt very confused and concerned.
I asked for Nick; when he came into my room and I told him what had happened, he squatted down next to the chair I was sitting in and reassured me that was a mistake, I didn't need to worry and that he would check out this misunderstanding. Every way, emotionally and physically since I was by this time exhibiting discomfort that I hadn't previously felt. Nick displays the qualities of professionalism which make him a fine nurse.
He is informative on every level at all times. He never leaves my room without telling me what to expect next in terms of meds, etc. He always gives me an approximate time when he will be back. I find this very reassuring.
He pays great attention to detail, remembers what has gone on with my situation previously, and is always very aware of my needs. He made an enormous difference in the quality of care I received here at Sherman Hospital. I am grateful he was there for me yesterday, at a moment of great stress. Nick's compassion made all the difference.
