Nicki was nominated by a mother whose child had an epidural hematoma and required a craniotomy to evaluate the bleeding. The nominating mother is also a nurse. Nicki stepped in, taking care of everything from sounding alarms to residents without the most accurate information. When the day of surgery arrived, Nicki made sure the mother was taken care of as a mother and not another nurse. When the parents arrived back from the surgery area, Nicki made sure to come to the mother and hug her and assure her: "He is under the care of the best surgeon and I would let him take care of my own child."
