An elderly couple was involved in a house fire during a snowstorm and needed urgent care. While wiping away the black soot from their pill bottles, Nicola heard the man say to his wife:"we have been married for 55 years and have never been homeless." Nicola took up a collection for the couple totaling $500.00 and as they were preparing to transfer the husband, Nicola went to his bedside and said: "just a little something to get you through the next few days." The tears in the eyes of the couple said it all. Nicola also arranged transportation for the wife via the state police, obtained clothing for the couple and returned to the husband's bedside before he was transferred, and said: "Your wife has left safely to go to your family" he nodded his head, and a tear ran down his face. Nicola is truly a role model-able to provide "life support" not just physically but emotionally as well.
