My husband suffered a stroke caused by an embolism that traveled to his brain. He was helicoptered from, Lewes, where we live to Christiana to have brain angioplasty. Being 80 miles from home in an unfamiliar environment left me with concerns as to my husband's standard of care at a hospital unknown to me. The surgery went well, and my husband was transferred to the Neuro Critical Care Unit.
It was there that I met Nicole Bell, my husband's day shift nurse. She introduced herself. She was very nice, personable, warm, and just plain kind. Nicole is very professional, knowledgeable, and applies her training in complete confidence that she knows what she is doing. She is truly a competent RN. Her compassion and caring attitude, and attention to detail toward my husband and his care left no doubt in my mind that he was getting top-notch care under her watch. She was thorough and gave him excellent care. She is what I call a nurse of high caliber.
I observed Nicole throughout her shift on the unit, and with all she had to do, she never seemed flustered as she went from room to room, caring for her patients. My husband was blessed to be one of her patients. He liked the compassionate care she gave and although unable to truly verbalize that, he was able to muster up a smile when he saw her come into the room. Although he suffered some residual damage from his stroke, Nicole was always able to get him to smile with her warm friendly ways and humor. It gave me great confidence in knowing that he was getting good care. Her positive attitude and keen sensitivity add to all that makes her a fully qualified nurse. Nicole always asked how I was doing and advised me if I needed anything to let her know. Christiana is blessed to have someone who represents the hospital so well. She has a heart for nursing and from what I could tell a passion for the service that she performs, and that's what makes her so outstanding. Thank you, Nicole, for your excellent service.
