January 2025 Honoree
Nicole Hetherington, BSN, RN-BC
I was saddened when I realized my body was in the middle of a familiar change. I called my husband, and we knew we were facing another loss. Despite all of this, I knew I still had to keep going. After our baby came, we waited for the birth process to finish. I did not pass my placenta, and I was hemorrhaging. My husband and I didn't understand the urgency until people started moving swiftly and with precision. My blood pressure dropped, and I was in pain. Nicole Hetherington jumped right in. I have never felt I could not care for myself, and for the first time in my life, I realized I needed help. Nicole was loving and understanding and didn't miss a beat. I was utterly dependent on her. I let my guard down completely and am so grateful I did. Nicole was an incredible nurse and an even better human. Nicole was by my side every time the charge nurse checked in on me. It was a difficult shift for her; she had to juggle a lot, but I never sensed it. I knew I was safe.
Thank you, Nicole, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
