Her kindness and compassion during the worst night of our lives will never be forgotten.
I was admitted to the hospital for pregnancy-related complications at 20 weeks 6 days. I was being monitored closely on an observation unit. Eventually, I went into labor, and we found out our son no longer had a heartbeat. I was quickly moved to Labor and Delivery where everything moved so fast. I was greeted by the kindest nurse, Nicole, who reassured me she would be by my side all night. I was in so much pain, Nicole called the anesthesia team right away so I could get an epidural. Nicole shared she had multiple losses including a second-trimester loss which helped me bond with her even more. I was so scared and unprepared as we had never discussed delivery with our OB. Nicole was by my side explaining what delivery would look like. Labor progressed fast and our son was born sleeping. Nicole wrapped him up and put him on my chest right away. Nicole talked to and treated our son as if he was born alive. She was so gentle with our sweet T. I had post-delivery complications and became very sick quickly. When my husband and I were scared for my own health, Nicole offered to hold T while the doctors worked on me. After the doctors were done, Nicole worked all night to stabilize me. I required multiple fluid boluses, antibiotics, and a blood transfusion. Nicole took T to a special room called the Joshua room and dressed our son in a beautiful outfit. She brought him back in a crocheted little cradle so we could spend time with him. I am a nurse myself and she went above and beyond her duties to take care of us that night. Her kindness and compassion during the worst night of our lives will never be forgotten. Nicole is the kind of nurse who is making a difference in her patients' lives every day. She has found her calling and is truly meant to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Nicole, thank you for taking care of all three of us.
