Nicole is an incredible nurse who delivers the highest standard of care with integrity and compassion. Nicole demonstrates excellence in all she does. She lives our core values daily, going above and beyond in her work and care of patients, care partners, and teammates.
Nicole has been a Home Dialysis Nurse for 4 years. She has embraced her role as a nurse as well as a preceptor and mentor for new teammates. She thrives on teaching, a skill that is required in Home Dialysis. Patients, care partners, and teammates have all shared that her ability to engage and teach others is phenomenal. She adapts her teaching style to meet the needs of everyone involved. She embraces cultural differences, including language barriers, and customizes teaching materials to ensure quality education and successful learning for all parties. Nicole never settles; she strives for excellence in all she does. She goes above and beyond to meet the needs of patients, care partners, providers, and teammates. She has exceptional clinical assessment skills allowing her to deliver high quality care across the spectrum.
Nicole shows up every day ready to care for others. Countless times, we have witnessed Nicole tackle complex patient situations even when they are not directly related to end-stage renal disease or dialysis. A patient was struggling with vision concerns and needed glasses. The patient could not afford glasses, so Nicole worked with the patient to research options and find glasses that were affordable. The patient was thrilled and reported improved quality of life.
Another patient situation that comes to mind involves a young patient who struggled with dialysis and difficult personal and family challenges. Nicole diligently worked with the patient and family to educate and provide support. Unfortunately, the patient acquired COVID-19, which resulted in hospitalization and an unexpected death. Nicole was instrumental in providing guidance and support to the family during this difficult time. She was able to assist the family regarding end-of-life decisions. Her prior experience in Transplant enabled her to provide education, which led the family to pursue organ donation, allowing others to receive the gift of life. Nicole’s steadfast support, education, and commitment to high quality compassionate care shines through in her work every day.
It is such a privilege and honor to nominate Nicole for the DAISY Award. Her commitment and compassion shine through in all she does. Her attention to detail, patient advocacy, compassion, and relentless follow-up allow her to deliver safe and exceptional patient care. Nicole is truly a blessing, a true leader in the field of Nursing!
