Niki was beyond caring and compassionate. As a “mom-nurse”, I was already anxious about having to bring my 3-year-old to the Emergency Department. Niki recognized this and did all that she could to provide timely, compassionate, excellent, and safe care. I knew from the second she brought us into triage we would be in excellent hands. She reassured me my job was to be “mom” and E would be well cared for by the team. Although I was “just mom”, Niki showed respect for my medical knowledge but still took the time to explain in plain language and update us as if I was “just a mom”. She was frequent in her rounding and attentive to not only E, but also to my husband and me. Her calm presence lowered our anxiety and built such trust in her. Words truly cannot express the gratitude I have for Niki. She made a terrifying night as “good” as it could have been given the circumstances. I am forever grateful for her and the care she provided.
