Niki provided the highest quality of care to my mom during her hospice hospital stay. She ensured mom’s comfort with her extraordinary care and compassion. She was timely with her assessment and administration of PRN meds to keep mom comfortable as her illness progressed and her body shut down. She extended support to our family by educating us on mom’s changes in status. She supported the family emotionally and offered to pray with us as signs indicated that Mom was preparing her transition to heaven. She generated words of comfort while also injecting opportunities for humor as we coped with saying our good-byes. She shared her plans to become a maternity nurse. Whatever her professional calling, she will be an asset to her patients and families. UPMC Horizon should be proud of its nursing staff. Although all were professional, this nurse and two others stood out as exceptional.
