Nicole is part of the unit glycemic teaching improvement project. Nicole is a role model for providing constructive peer feedback to help evaluate her peers' practice. She partners with her patients to develop goals for the shift and will actively seek their input in how well the goals have been met - and Nicole will serve as a care planning super user in the coming weeks.
Nicole was nominated by her peer, the night shift staff educator, who had this to say about how Nicole is deserving of this award:
"Nicole, working at midnight, was faced with a very difficult situation. Her patient was aggressive with his girlfriend with their baby in the room. Though clearly rattled, (and so was I), Nicole kept an impressively therapeutic state, not only helping the girlfriend secure transportation home for her and the baby, but also providing information about resources available to her, should she choose to use them. Just as impressively, she maintained a therapeutic relationship with the patient during this time of distress. It is an inspiring display of compassion that she was able to see the human in both and treat each with respect, understanding, and caring. Nicole's actions gave me faith in the profession of nursing."
