Nicole Sclafani exemplifies all of our CCHESS initiatives. Nicole is a caring and self-less individual. Nicole is self-motivated and goes above and beyond to care for her patients and to assist our Emergency Department as needed. Nicole motivates staff and is a valuable resource to newer staff, as she is always willing to step into the preceptor role.

Nicole took care of a delightfully sweet elderly woman who was admitted for AMS. Her family was unable to stay with her which made the patient very tearful, which is what Nicole thought. Nicole tried to reassure her that she would be in good hands and that she would take excellent care of her. The patient replied that she was not upset about the care that she would receive, but that she had not been hospitalized and today was her birthday. Nicole seemed to hold back tears.

Nicole rounded up me and 4 nurse orientees and she led us in singing Happy Birthday to the patient. The patient was so overcome with joy; she cried for so long and hugged each one of us with an embrace that we could not break away from. Not only did Nicole make this patient feel so good about the staff at SBMC she made our staff see that we could and should go above and beyond for our patients; if even in the smallest way.
