I am a medical student on my medicine rotation and I have been following a patient Nicole is caring for. It has been a difficult patient. Despite the patient's actions and attitude, Nicole continues to compassionately care for him. She helped me get him out of bed using the lift and setting him up in a wheelchair and creating special attachments and padding so he would be comfortable. It was a tremendous effort to accomplish this. She had such a great attitude and helped me achieve this goal.
She also treated me with respect even though I am just a student and I often feel like other staff members find us annoying. I wish every nurse was as motivated, kind, and compassionate as Nicole. Truly struck by her care!! She does the most unpleasant tasks with a smile on her face and helps patients maintain their dignity in the most vulnerable of times. I really hope she wins this award. She very much deserves it.
