Nicole was a nurse for a patient who was in his 40s. However, his mental age was about the age of 7. The patient was having declining health and was super agitated. The family wanted to refrain from using as much medication as possible but wanted him to be comfortable. Nicole sat with the family and offered to find him his favorite movie. Nicole went and communicated with her charge nurse and the Pediatric unit and found his favorite movie, "Horton Hears a Who." Nicole also found him a stuffed animal to help him hold on to something. Nicole started his movie, and the patient was able to calm down enough to actually pass on to the other side in peace. What is so touching is the mother of the patient came in and had a scan/procedure and was telling staff about her experience with Nicole and what a difference and long-lasting memory for them to have with their son.

Nicole made an impact on this family enough to share it with others in the hospital. She was able to take these last precious final moments stress-free and loving. She made the environment of a hospital change to a warm and inviting place for one to pass away.
