I would like to nominate Nicole “Nikki” Stuefen for the DAISY Award. Nikki is an outstanding charge nurse who consistently goes above and beyond, not only in the emergency department but across St Francis Hospital. An excellent example of her dedication occurred recently when a Code Blue was called for a 34-year-old female in labor who became unresponsive with a complication that is normally fatal. Nikki stepped away from the ER for over three hours to assist with the patient’s crash C-section and run the Belmont for the massive transfusion protocol. Her skill and expertise as an ER nurse were fundamental in getting this patient the care she needed as quickly as the team could. Upon her return to the emergency department, her first concern was whether her absence had negatively impacted her team, demonstrating her deep commitment to both her patients and her colleagues.
