Nikki is one of our hospital Treasures. Nikki partnered with me on a palliative conversation with an elderly ICU patient, providing hands-on comforting care to the patient during the conversation (mouth care, lip balm, warm face wash) and staying late after her shift to support the patient and daughter as she transitioned to comfort care. The daughter, who is a nurse, was so moved by Nikki's commitment. She also took time to support the bedside nurses through this process. Expert comfort care and compassion are just two of Nikki's superpowers! We are so lucky to have her, especially since her shift spans into the evening hours!
