Nikki truly has a passion for NICU nursing and it is evident in her daily interactions. She is a strong member of our team and collaborates well with all services. Nikki is a consistent advocate for her patients and takes pride in providing the best and safest care. She builds strong and trusting relationships with her patient's families. Her holistic approach tofamily-centeredcareis appreciated by all.
As a preceptor, Nikki demonstrates professionalism and helps guide new nurses in their practice. She seeks out a variety of learning opportunity and invests herself in their development. Nikki is an outstanding NICU nurse and is well deserving of this award.

My husband and I (and son) would like to nominate Nikki for the DAISY award.Nikki had been a nurse of outstanding quality and character during my son's stayinthe NICU.She had been instrumental in our ability to cope during that difficult time.
The following are reasons for our nomination:
1) Nikki prepared us gently, ahead of time, about some possible diagnoses or possible equipment that he may need to go home on.She always seemed to present this information in the right manner, making it easier.Specifically, she had already provided us with education about home oxygen and a g-tube, even before they were definitively needed.Under her care, we never seemed takenoff-guardor shocked by what doctors were going to say.
2) Nikki paid VERY CLOSE attention to ourson and even advocated for the doctors to give him another chance at making respiratory progress."He hasn't proved to us that he is going to fail."She is not afraid, respectfully, to speak up for her patients.She took her job very seriously, paid attention to the smallest of details on our son's symptoms and progress.
3) Nikki was in tune with our anxieties and frustrations (LOTS), she came alongside us to calm them and help us through.I often felt that I was her patient, too.
4) She was great at encouraging us to do as much as we could, and as independently as we could.
5) Much of the normalcy of life is gone while in the NICU, but she brought some of that back by taking photos and making a page for milestones/dates (1 months, 2 months, mother's day, Easter).She took the above and beyond time to take his photos and footprints.These thoughtful touches brought some fun andsmiles to our day.
6) She ALWAYS asked us our password/code when calling.She surely knew our voices and about what times we typically called, but made sure we gave the code.
7) Ona moreminor note, Nikki had "normal life" conversations with us - NOT relating to symptoms, progress, etc.We talked about hobbies, summer plans, restaurant recommendations, and various other topics.She maintained her professional boundary while still incorporating normal, fun, light-hearted conversations.
