Nicole is an exceptional resource to St. Bernadine. No job is too small or too large for her. She is always ready to lend a hand and she will never refuse to get involved, to help, and to own a new assignment. "No" does not appear to be part of her vocabulary.
A recent example that illustrates the tremendous value Nicole brings to St. Bernardine is the implementation of the Ascom telephone system. The nurse director originally in charge of this project left SBMC, and we were left with a project that was being delayed because of lack of nursing representation and the inability to determine the telephone communications needs of nursing. When presented with this challenge, Nicole was quick to volunteer her support, work with IT, and complete a truly difficult task. Nicole worked with all the managers to deploy the Ascom telephones, including the planning efforts required to get each unit's contacts list ready and conducting training on the regular use and troubleshooting of the telephones. She did not stop there. She went as far as providing one-on-one support to everyone in the hospital assigned an Ascom phone. This extra task was above her duties as manager plus oversight of an additional unit that she covered for a colleague out on medical leave. I don't know many managers who would be willing to take on so much, and to do it so well!
Another gift Nicole regularly gives the St. Bernardine family is sharing her knowledge and support of every piece of high tech equipment in the hospital. She is known as the go-to person for help with these things and is used by other nursing managers often. She will tell you how to set up your computer, phone or whatever tech equipment you need to troubleshoot.
Nicole is well known throughout the hospital for her compassion and willingness to help. I have not known Nicole too long, but already she has impressed me with her display of human kindness. Sometimes, her plate is overflowing with responsibilities, but if you ask her to do something for you or just for some assistance she will tell you yes without hesitation.
Nicole embodies every aspect of the nursing vision and nursing excellence. Nicole is an extraordinary nurse and an exemplary manager.
