Having Nicolle as my labor nurse was heaven-sent, she was exactly the type of nurse and angel I needed to get through this experience.
I am someone who was terrified of labor. This was my first pregnancy, and my birth plan was minimal pain, no c-section and a nurse who is kind and would be my advocate. Nicolle came onto the shift just when my water broke, and my contractions really started to become painful. She was 100% supportive of me and understood my anxiety of pain. I felt absolutely no judgment from her, and I could tell just by her communication how confident she was in her skills and her knowledge. She gave me pain medication and got an epidural quickly for me. She explained every step in detail and any side effects. A few hours later I called for her because I felt a change in my pain, she checked me right away, and called the doctor because I was ready to push! Nicolle coached me on how to push, and was just so, so amazing. I had some post-birth hemorrhaging and Nicolle, the MD, and the other RNs in the room were so calm and efficient, I had absolutely no concern and knew they were taking great care of me. Again, Nicolle was communicating everything yet still was just moving quickly starting another IV and doing whatever else needed to be done. I am so emotional writing this because when I say that my biggest fear was labor, I truly believe that's why I had to be induced... my body wouldn't relax. Having Nicolle as my labor nurse was heaven-sent, she was exactly the type of nurse and angel I needed to get through this experience. She supported me the entire night, without fail. My husband said I was so out of it and Nicolle kept making sure I wasn't still bleeding, that my vitals were okay, and even helped me up to the bathroom; he also said that Nicolle was attentive to him as well, making sure he was okay with the baby and he was feeling okay since he hadn't slept a wink. She deserves every award and recognition and truly this unit is so fortunate to have her as staff, truly an asset. I wasn't even her patient the next night, and she came in to check on me! Thank you so much Nicolle for being such an amazing person at a time when I felt so scared, clueless, and entering a whole new chapter of my life.
