My husband came into the ER with symptoms of a stroke. He received timely intervention and good care from the outstanding ER physicians and caregivers. He was admitted to ONS where he was cared for by caring, friendly caregivers. One nurse really stood out to him and me during his stay. Her name was Niesha Ginn. She connected with my husband. She was very knowledgeable and answered his questions in a timely fashion. He indicated that he "trusted her". I was grateful for Niesha's request to speak with me by phone. My husband was confused and struggling to find his words during the first couple days of admission. She could see he was struggling on the phone with me and in a very compassionate, caring way she suggested that she speak with me. She provided me with information that a wife needs, but also the detail that a colleague needs. I also appreciated her diligent use of the whiteboard. This really helped my husband as he struggled to keep things straight.
My husband describes her as having "a peaceful way about her….we really connected." Niesha demonstrated care, compassion, and empathy while being skilled and knowledgeable. She role modeled the "Art and Science" of nursing practice.
