February 2018 Honoree
nikki caldwell maceiree, RN
I have never witnessed someone who has a level of dedication that Nikki has to her job and her patients. During her shift, she would tirelessly ensure that her patients' needs were met in a timely manner and would even jump in to help other staff whenever she could. My sister and I watched her form a connection with my father which not only meant a lot to him but to us also. Our father is critically ill due to a sepsis infection which was identified as staph and is not able to fight it off due to a weakened immune system. This was brought on by being treated for cancer with chemo and radiation. Nikki worked to ensure that he was given pain medication on a very specific schedule and would even take time to feed him if my sister or I weren't present. Nikki epitomizes skillful and compassionate care. I know that being a nurse is a very demanding and sometimes thankless job, but I can unequivocally state that the level of service and compassion that she showed my father and us was above and beyond what we ever expected. We lost our mother a month ago and now we are in the process of losing our father which made for a very emotional time for our family. We felt that Nikki became part of our extended family and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Thank you, Nikki, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
