Our 10-year-old son, M, was brought by ambulance to Silver Cross's ER last week. He had been in a school PE accident and collided head-to-head with another student. Upon arriving at Silver Cross Hospital, as a mom, I was nervous, scared, and worried about what would happen to our son. Nikki was our ER Nurse.
Nikki walked me through all the initial steps of what would happen and take place in the ER. I was a mess! Nikki comforted me, for she knew besides having a young patient, she had worried parents as well. M was in extreme pain. Nikki was there by M's side, comforting him and talking to him the entire time we were there, even during M's CAT scan. She is an amazing nurse and person!
M's condition worsened before it got better. Nikki was helping him while he was moving in his bed uncontrollably, throwing up, yelling, crying, you name it. Nikki attended to all our son's needs with wisdom, compassion and very much needed support! We know that nurses hold a special job and not every person can be a nurse and do that particular job. It really takes a very special individual to hold this particular position! Nikki's grace, wisdom, and compassion makes her wonderful at her job. We kept thanking Nikki for being so wonderful and caring towards our son. She, I'm sure, appreciated the kind words but, she was very humbled! Our entire family could see and watched how Nikki effortlessly does her job and can see she's proud of what she does!
My husband and I feel very blessed that Nikki was the best ER nurse at Silver Cross Hospital for our son M. Nikki made our crazy, traumatic experience a bit more "bearable" under the traumatic circumstances our son was in.
