January 2021 Honoree
Nikki LaFratte, RN
Nikki, who works in the ICU, was nominated by a colleague to recognize the compassionate care provided to both the patient and his family. The following is an excerpt from the nomination form:
I had the opportunity to witness Nikki make a huge difference in a patient’s stay in the hospital. She admitted a patient who ended up needing open-heart surgery later on in his stay. Because of COVID protocols, this patient was unable to have any visitors. The patient was having a few rough days after his surgery and was only able to communicate with his family via phone. Nikki made a few calls and was able to bring his wife in to visit him as a surprise. The patient and his wife were both tearful to see each other in person after almost 2 weeks apart Nikki showed what it means to go above and beyond and to try to make a patient’s stay a little better. It was something small, but it made a huge difference in their lives.

Thank you, Nikki, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
