Nikki has expertly explained to us the science and medical rationale of wound care in a way that we both understand.
My spouse is a patient for Wound Healing. A Valenti procedure surgery was done in May in Denver. This surgery was on the toe so that when my spouse walks, there will be less pressure on that toe. The surgical wound had not healed due to an infection and then pressure put on the wound when walking. But, with an abundance of caution, we traveled south to our home here in August for a family reunion and began care here for the surgical wound, and also for a diabetic ulcer wound that developed on another toe due to compensating walking patterns.

My spouse was never offered home health care in Denver, so when it was offered to us here, we were thrilled to have a professional nurse come to the house to take care of the wounds. We are writing you to let you know that until Nikki started home health care on my spouse's feet, we felt defeated and hopeless! In less than a month of Nikki's care, the surgical wound has completely healed. The diabetic wound ulcer is still in the healing process, but she said she can tell that it's on the mend, too. And, Nikki has expertly explained to us the science and medical rationale of wound care in a way that we both understand what is happening, our important role in this process, and now we both finally have confidence that it will heal!

Nikki has made this experience tolerable and promising for us both because it is obvious that she cares about and respects her patients. Her careful attention to detail and years of experience gave us much-needed confidence in the process and assurance that we'd get through it okay. She has gone above and beyond with follow-up, instructions, and oversight. She is the voice of reason and skillfully manages her patient's expectations and concerns. She has a very calming effect on patients, especially when there's anxiety and angst, and she is empathetic and sympathetic all at once! Nikki is compassionate and understanding and able to communicate in a way that patients understand the "what" and "why" of what she is doing to heal the wounds and our important role in the process, as well. She lifts us up whenever she is here and has given us hope. She is professional, compassionate, and truly concerned about seeing my spouse's outcome be positive.

For all these reasons, Nikki is deserving of this DAISY Award for her extraordinary care and concern!
