Nina was assigned to care for a patient on our unit who was a young father dying of lung cancer. Nina cared for him several days including the day that he passed. Throughout this time, Nina went beyond the call of duty to ensure that the patient passed comfortably with dignity and family by his side and all of his passing wishes fulfilled. The patient’s family found Nina to be a great source of comfort and stability during this sad and difficult time.
Beyond this particular situation, Nina is a wonderful example of what a DAISY Award winner should be. She is positive, intuitive, helpful, intelligent and caring for all of her patients, family members and coworkers. Even though I have been a nurse longer than Nina I look to her for advice and guidance and trust her opinion greatly. Nina participates in unit committees and is starting the PACE committee (Positive Attitudes Change Everything) to promote unity, satisfaction, and positive work ethic. Nina is beyond deserving of a DAISY Award!
