Nina demonstrated Collaboration, Caring, Accountability, Respect and Excellence one day while working in the Emergency Department. Nina received a patient that was lethargic, confused, and hypotensive in the 80s requiring dialysis. Nina received orders from the MD to start dialysis on her patient. However, Nina felt that her patient was not stable enough to proceed with the treatment. Nina continued to escalate the situation and communicated very well with both the Hospitalist and Float Pool Clinical Unit Supervisor regarding her patient needs. After seeing a further decline in her patient’s status, Nina quickly and appropriately called a rapid response. The patient was immediately admitted to the ICU and placed on vasopressors to support her blood pressure. It was further determined that the patient’s condition had declined rapidly as they had missed dialysis treatment for over a month. Once the patient’s blood pressure was stabilized, the patient’s condition improved significantly and the patient had a good outcome.
