Nina’s care for us excelled in so many ways, and we immediately knew she was special. We first met Nina when we arrived at the Infusion Center for my husband’s first infusion, and he was anxious. She engaged him in conversation about what he likes to do and was immediately able to calm his nerves. She built a level of trust with us by relating to him on his terms, and the warmth she exuded made such a difference. She built a personal connection with us, sharing the reasons why she had always wanted to be an oncology nurse. We simply found her to be extraordinary in all aspects of her care. Even though she was new to the Infusion Center, we felt very comfortable having her care for my husband.
As a former Chair of the Patient Quality and Safety Committee, I observed how she flawlessly executed the prescribed protocols of hand washing, swabbing his IV port prior to the beginning of the infusion, and protecting herself with the proper gown and gloves. I observed her asking questions of colleagues to ensure that she was providing the best response she could to all our questions. She had a questioning attitude, yet exuded confidence. Nina also shared that she just loved being at GBMC and that everyone was so helpful and warm, which furthered our sense of overall confidence in our care. Not only is Nina’s head in the game, but her heart is as well. Nina’s caring approach towards us definitely exceeded your promise to treat every patient, every time like your own loved ones. We certainly felt cared for like family and are so happy to recommend her for The DAISY Award.
