My son has had a complex medical history since birth. He is no stranger to SJCH. Between surgeries, procedures, tests, and admissions, he has been through more than most children ever have to. In the last few years, he has developed a bit more anxiety about IVs, lab work, and nasal swabs. He was so lucky and blessed to have this person as his ER nurse.

When he was very vocal about his previous ER visit and how traumatic it was, Nina was right at his level and listened to his every worry. She treated my son with so much dignity and respect. She truly listened to him and validated his fears. She allowed him to ask questions and explained the process and how much the ultrasound Doppler helps to get IV access. She gained his trust and I saw the difference immediately from his anxious behavior to more relaxed behavior. She showed him the nasal swab and let him see the length of the swab. She offered so much comfort to my child, and my mama's heart was so full. He did not shed a tear and was so thankful to her for the smooth process. When she left the room, he immediately told me that she was the best nurse. She is a true example of a remarkable pediatric nurse and human being. I am recognizing her for her compassionate care. SJCH is lucky to have such an amazing nurse, and each child who has her as a nurse is even luckier.
