Nina is an outstanding RN and exhibits all of the qualities of the Beaumont Nurse Model. Nina consistently goes above and beyond for her patients. Nina gives 110% on a daily basis and is committed to not only the physical quality patient care but the emotional and spiritual as well. Nina continiously helps her patients and their families maintain health and cope during times of stress and suffering. When all medical means have been exhausted she is there to help them experience a dignified and peaceful death. Nina was caring for a patient that was suffering from esophageal cancer with mets. Frequently, he would become short of breath and experience difficulty in breathing; due to the ever increasing pleural effusions. During an acute episode of pain and dyspnea, Nina talked to him about hospitce measures. The patient was very adamant that his wife was very against this and he was not ready either. Nina called the doctor and orders were obtained for a chest tube placement. Nina stayed at the bedside and held him across her shoulders because he was too weak to sit up on his own. As the tube was being placed tears were streaming down his face and running into Nina's neck. She continued to stroke his back and encouraged him throughout the procedure. Once the tube was secured and in place Nina medicated him with pain medicine and ensured his comfort. At this point the patient decided that he could no longer continue to be poked and proded and asked Nina to help him talk to his wife about hospice measures. The next day,he was made comfortable and left this world for a better place all with the help of his "bedside angel" Nina Sadowski.
