Nina Schuett, BSN, RN
When our family was faced with the unexpected, devastating diagnosis of a very serious cancer for my brother-in-law, Nina was an angel sent by God. At first we just recognized that she provided patient care with respect, compassion, and skill, but it soon became apparent that Nina was so much more than that.
When she asked if she could pray with us, our hearts melted with joy. She continued doing that every day before leaving her shift. Her prayers were uplifting, sincere, loving and even appropriately humorous. What touched me in a special way was that she began each prayer by giving thanks for the honor of serving Bruce as his nurse.
We fell in love with her in those few days. Her presence made the onslaught of difficult news from medical tests easier to digest, and we looked forward to seeing her each day. Her care and concern were always delivered with humility. She is the embodiment of an angel in her field, a truly awesome employee!
St. Vincent’s has always operated on the belief that patients should come first and Nina absolutely made that core value a reality in the way she treated Bruce as well as his family and friends.
