Ninotchka Janine Galut, BSN, RN
Caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease has been one of the most challenging experiences our family has faced. After much thought, we made the difficult decision to have our loved one reside here. When he first arrived here, he was very homesick and was constantly searching for exit signs, trying to find his way home.
During this time, Janine was instrumental in helping him adjust to the new surroundings. Janine kept a close watch on him to ensure safety and remained calm, patient, and compassionate even during the most challenging moments. Janine always treated him with dignity and respect, gently reassuring him, easing his anxiety, and successfully helping him to adjust to his new home.
In both big and small ways, there are countless examples of Janine going the extra mile every day to care for him. Whether it’s monitoring his weight issues, responding quickly after a fall, coordinating with other members of his care team, or simply taking the time to meet his individual needs, Janine consistently demonstrates genuine compassion and exceptional nursing care.
One example that especially stands out was when he had an early morning appointment at TMC. Because he needed to leave the VA by 6:30 am, Janine thoughtfully coordinated everything in advance. Janine arranged for the cafeteria to deliver his breakfast at 6:00 am so he could eat before leaving; she woke him up early, helped him get dressed, and made sure he was ready on time.
Janine’s careful planning and attention to every detail turned what could have been a confusing and stressful morning into a smooth, comforting experience for him. It also gave our family tremendous peace of mind, knowing he was being cared for with such thoughtfulness and kindness.
Janine’s compassion, thoughtfulness, and dedication have been a true blessing to our entire family. Knowing that he is cared for with such kindness, respect, and genuine love has given us comfort during an incredibly difficult journey and reassured us that we made the right decision.
