Modesty aside, it is a known fact that CCU is one of the best units in KSMC. I am very proud because I am part of this lovely unit. CCU has passed three accreditations with high marks not locally and international. It has maintained its high scores in tracers despite our space problem. Our CCU staffs are one of the best-trained staff to provide quality and safe care to our critically ill cases. Staff shortage is not new to CCU. But because we are trained to multi-task, teamwork and doing our best for our patients, we are able to surpass every challenge that comes our way.
One of the CCU staff who does multi-tasking at its best is Miss Nishamol George, our NUBC Chairman, Wound Care Link Nurse, Preceptor, CCU staff for 8 years. She is one of the brilliant staff at CCU who never ceases to update her knowledge and skills for the benefit of patient safety. She always aims to be the best.
Being the NUBC Chairman, she had helped a lot for the CCU to sustain high marks in tracer. She attends the Champion Meetings and patiently echoes the meeting agenda to the other leaders at CCU and to update CCU staff for any policy and Procedure Updates. Currently, she is conducting a daily review for CCU staff nurses in preparation for the final survey of the CBAHI.
On a daily basis, she helps me check each discharge file before it reaches the Medical Record Department. She helps me do open file review, patiently asks each staff to complete their documentation and teaches them how to fill out each form.
She is a certified preceptor and one of the best in the CCU. She even teaches physicians how to fill out a form or what to write in the Discharge Summary. She is very patient in teaching everyone. Known to be detailed oriented prevents errors that save lives. She is very committed to every task she is given.
She is a wound care link nurse and diligently applies what she learned from those lectures and workshops. She is one of the reasons why the CCU has reduced the incidence of pressure ulcers. The knowledge she learned from those lectures, she imparted to her colleagues and plans to train all CCU staff as a part of her NUBC project for 2017.
Above all this, she is one compassionate, committed staff nurse towards her patients on the CCU. Her knowledge in cardiac medication enables her to patiently answer every question her patients have regarding medications. As I have observed her, she is very respectful towards everyone and is also an advocatefor her patients and colleagues. She is calm under pressure and effectively completes her tasks on time and always ensures that all documentation forms are filled out.
Ms. Nishamol George is one extraordinary nurse who is an expert at multi-tasking, committed to the safety of her patients, and never stops seeking knowledge to improve herself in order to provide safe and quality patient care. She is definitely an asset to CCU.
