Nonie is proactive and supports all unit activities. No assignment is too big or small.
I have known Nonhlanhla Mthalane for the past five years and found her to be an amazing person. Nonhlanhla (known as Nonie by the Team) is a highly committed professional, dynamic, dedicated to her work, and goes beyond her job requirements. She is an excellent nurse, highly organized, quality driven, very supportive, empathetic, good mannered, and always willing to assist. Nonie collaborates well and has developed excellent rapport with the multidisciplinary team and colleagues hold her in high esteem. An excellent resource for the team, shares her knowledge, very articulate and finds way for better management of clinic operations. She has excellent communication and customer care skills which is very conducive for the area is she assigned in (Psychiatry Clinic).

Language is not a barrier for Nonie and she is able to communicate with the patients and their families in Arabic. Her devotion and dedication to the needs of the patients is commendable and strongly advocates for the patient. She is always striving to provide optimal care to patients with good outcomes. As Medical/Pain clinic is a very dynamic area with many subspecialties, Nonie is resilient, has optimal knowledge, skills, and attitude to work in any area. She able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner and able to cope under pressure. Her attendance, reliability, and performance are exemplary.

Nonie is proactive and supports all unit activities. No assignment is too big or small as she executes it in a timely manner and would not rest until the job was completed. She upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Organization. Some of the contributions are: • Charge Nurse • Unit Based Council Chair for two consecutive years with very good outcomes • Participated during the Magnet Re-Designation Site Visit • Contributed to quality indicators; documentation, hand hygiene compliance and Patient Experience. • Certified Robust Process Improvement Coach • Always supports and contributes to organization activities such as awareness days, Nurse Volunteer Program (received appreciation from the Recognition and Retention Department) • Ability to network with stakeholders, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, coordinate and facilitate meetings, projects and taskforces. • Covered the Asst. Head Nurse during her absence. • Supported the Retention department – Retention team referred employees to Nonie from other areas within the Organization who needed emotional and psychological support.

F2 support person during the bereavement process, support beyond working hours for the staff who underwent extreme depression. One staff from KACOLD who was not coping at work. Recently met the staff in the corridor and she looked much better since the initial meeting.

Nonie is a lady of high morals and ethics whose sense of integrity is without question, whom I and the team admire and greatly value. Her good nature, calm demeanor, and kindness have created a special place in the hearts of her colleagues.

Despite Nonie reaching the top of grade, she has continued to do her best and fulfill her role and responsibilities as a nurse. It is an honor and pleasure to have Nonie as one of the employees in Medical Clinic and very deserving of this award.

On a personal level, Nonie has supported me when my mum passed away last year. Her constant messages of support had helped me through my bereavement. Recently, Nonie accompanied me to the ER as I was unwell and stayed with me throughout and took care of me. This goes without saying that Nonie is truly a nurse of compassion.
