Our neighbor had surgery, and he was told he could go home the same day if he felt up to it. However, when he woke from surgery, he was in terrible pain and was unable to move or sit up. Nurse Nora worked all afternoon, trying to get him comfortable. By late afternoon, we discovered he was not going to be able to go home. He lives by himself, and he would not come to our home. He wanted to be in his own bed! We were so worried about him. Nurse Nora realized we needed to make other arrangements, as he would need to stay at the hospital, but there were no beds available. She promised to do her best and that she would keep in touch with us over the next several hours. She called three times with updates. Almost at the end of Nora’s shift, we received a phone call stating, “We found a room!”
