What stood out most was Noreen’s attentiveness to my needs. During a particularly challenging moment, she remained composed and provided unwavering support, both physically and emotionally. Her expertise was evident in the way she anticipated my needs before I even had to ask.
I am nominating Noreen Pippio for the DAISY Award due to her exceptional care and dedication during my labor and delivery, not once but twice.
In December of 2022, I went into labor at 39 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I had had 5 miscarriages previously, so as you can imagine, my anxiety was already through the roof throughout my entire pregnancy. All I could think of was something was going to go wrong during labor or delivery. I had a pretty rough labor, I was very nauseated, and in pain the entire time. Noreen was on top of my needs and made sure I had everything I needed to be as comfortable as possible. Toward the end of my labor, Noreen discovered I was having some issues dilating on just one side. She used her expertise and experience from 20+ years in nursing to try some different techniques, and I successfully dilated on both sides. When my daughter arrived, she had swallowed meconium and needed to be suctioned by the NICU immediately. If it had not been for Noreen meticulously setting up the room and making sure she had all the necessary working equipment and correct supplies, who knows what state my daughter would be in. I had a successful delivery, and she even came and checked on us the next day in the postpartum ward.
The time came for us to have our second baby. I prayed almost my entire pregnancy that I would have Noreen again as my nurse. I was induced on a day that Noreen was just on call, not scheduled to come in. It just so happened that another nurse called out, and even though they didn’t NEED her because the schedule wasn’t busy for the day, she still came in because I requested to have her if she did end up working. I was her only patient that day, and my labor and delivery went absolutely perfectly. Noreen was nothing short of perfect in her role.
From the moment Noreen arrived and introduced herself as my day nurse, she made me feel at ease with her calming demeanor and reassuring smile. She took the time to explain each step of the process, ensuring I felt informed and empowered throughout. Between my experiences with her and her bedside manner, she deserves to be recognized in an extraordinary way.
