In April 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy in July. After surgery, I had some complications that caused me to be admitted to Magee in August, 2023. I was there for six days. Now, l am working on breast reconstruction, again with complications. I was admitted in June and discharged in July. While taking walks in the hallway, I noticed this award, to nominate a nurse. As I sat and contemplated which nurse to nominate, I concluded that I could not choose one great nurse. During both of my stays at Magee, I had nothing but incredible nurses. Every nurse went above and beyond; they all treated me as if I were the only patient here. They were never in a hurry, nor did l ever have to wait long for anything I needed. Each one treated me like family. Each one came into my room with a smile and positive personality. Working on the oncology floor cannot be easy - I know I could never do it. These nurses were always so kind and positive. No one hurried in and out, but instead carried conversations with me. This meant a lot to me as sitting in a hospital is very lonely, and all I was left with was my thoughts. I cannot express enough how each one of them made me feel... like a person they've known forever. I have watched them work- going from one room to the next, with a smile for each patient. They answer questions, they continually asked if I needed anything, never showing any frustration or exhaustion. Each nurse was as wonderful as the one before. They all genuinely love their patients. It is very clear. I wish every one of them would get this award; they all deserve it!
