They acted with confidence and urgency while taking the time to explain what was happening, reassuring us and treating my husband and our family with dignity and compassion.
On January 31st, my husband, J, suffered a massive heart attack. He was admitted to the CCU after a procedure in the cath lab. He remained in the CCU for 12 days and was intubated for nine of those days. During the stay, we were blessed by the care received from the entire CCU department. I know that the DAISY Award is presented to extraordinary nurses. There is no way for us to pick just one nurse for this award. For this reason, I wholeheartedly nominate the entire CCU Department for recognition of the exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism demonstrated during one of the most terrifying times of my family's life.
When J suffered his heart attack, everything happened quickly, and the fear was overwhelming. Amid the chaos, the nurses attending to J exhibited a steady calming presence. From the very first encounter, they showed not only remarkable skill but also deep humility. They acted with confidence and urgency while taking the time to explain what was happening, reassuring us and treating my husband and our family with dignity and compassion. I'm going to list the nurses who specifically cared for J, but I truly believe the entire department was remarkable. They even stopped by to check after we were moved to another unit, and several were in tears upon my spouse's discharge on February 13th. For these reasons, I nominate the CCU Department for the DAISY Award.
Some of Jeff's nurses in the CCU were "Sheila, Shane, Keri, Ted, Sarah, Sana, Rosemary, Aleem, Ghada, Hugo, Jessica, and Kanto." These individuals are heroes to us. Jeff is home now and is recovering well because of the care received from these nurses.
