Mel always goes above and beyond for her patients, but one day in September she had a patient who came in for eye surgery. This patient already had vision loss in both eyes and had been off work for several months. Her doctor claimed to be too busy to do her disability paperwork, so she had gone these last few months with no income. For this reason, she was not able to afford two of her diabetes meds, causing her blood sugar to be elevated. Mel took the time to talk to the doctor and his office to get her disability pay activated. As well as send out a message to our entire staff requesting help to give the patient enough money to get her meds for the next few months. She was able to collect several hundred dollars within a few hours and send the patient home with more than enough to get her med restarted. The patient and her husband were both beyond grateful for all Mel did for her. She truly went beyond what was expected and was able to get her patient the help she needed.
